"We did something historic": Leandro Santoro celebrated Sunday's results in Buenos Aires.

"We did something historic": Leandro Santoro celebrated Sunday's results in Buenos Aires.

One day after the elections, Leandro Santoro , the candidate for Buenos Aires City legislator, praised the results despite finishing second behind Manuel Adorni. Santoro agreed with various leaders and journalists and considered that the PRO political project "disappeared" after Sunday's election and called on Peronists to "unite as a front to expand their space."

After a legislative election with low citizen participation, the Es Ahora Buenos Aires list managed to garner 449,444 votes, which translated into just over 27.35% of the vote. Above Santoro's list, the La Libertad Avanza party, headed by presidential spokesman Manuel Adorni , achieved 30.13% of the vote and placed first. The strong electoral results of the Libertarians and Peronists are explained by the weakening of the PRO (Project for the Liberation of Buenos Aires), which managed to garner only 15.9% of the votes for Silvia Lospennato 's list.

Speaking with C5N, Santoro celebrated the final result, despite having been predicted to win by various consulting firms. " This is commendable because we're facing the National Government and the City Government, which have a strong political structure. We made a historic choice ," he emphasized, adding, "This is possible because we're committed to expanding."

With the elections on Sunday the 18th, Peronism achieved one of its best results in the City in more than 18 years. In 2009, after the emergence of the PRO (Progressive Party of Buenos Aires), it obtained 11.61%; in 2013, 21.62%; then in 2017, 21.74%; and finally, in 2021, 25.06%. In this context, Santoro stated: "It is impossible to win the City if we remain closed. One of the conclusions we draw is that by 2026, the challenge is to continue expanding and building a local space with political representation and capable of articulating differences."

" We are the largest minority; the rest of the blocs are smaller groups than us. Within this Legislature, we must begin to build a front that puts a stop to the neoliberal logic of using chainsaws to make people suffer," Santoro stated, affirming that Peronism "must polarize with Javier Milei." For Santoro, the front that must be formed "must be multiparty and synthesize the differences of its members ."

During another part of the interview, the national representative stated that " the PRO's political project has disappeared " and that La Libertad Avanza represents "something much worse than the PRO." "LLA's true objective was to defeat the PRO and keep the City . Macri's party came in third; they have virtually no capacity to form a coalition with any bloc ," he stated.
